The International Agency for Research on Cancer works to carry out its mission – cancer research for cancer prevention – in countries all over the world. We strive to reduce the burden of different cancers by collecting, cleaning, and recording incidence, mortality, and prevalence data to inform policy, by developing screening programmes for real-world conditions, by researching cancer biomarkers through genetic sequencing, and through a host of other projects. This is made possible through our partners, the people who appear in the videos below. You can browse these videos by region or cancer type or topic to find out more about what we do and who we collaborate with.
IARC has 26 Participating States and staff members with more than 50 nationalities, but our work certainly doesn’t stop there. Our objective is to promote international collaboration in cancer research, with a particular interest in promoting partnerships and collaborations with researchers in low- and middle-income countries. Find out more about IARC’s work in your country with this category.
Five cancer types – lung, breast, colorectal, prostate, and stomach cancer – cause almost half of all cancer cases and almost half of all cancer deaths worldwide (~46.1% of cases and deaths). Many cases can be prevented with individual lifestyle changes and decreased exposures to carcinogens, and many cancer deaths can be prevented through effective screening programmes. Discover how IARC and partners work to control these and other cancer types using this category.

IARC Research Worldwide is a project that aims to demonstrate the scope and impact of IARC’s various research projects and collaborations around the world. This series of 1–2-minute video messages, filmed on phones and cameras in the field and in laboratories by IARC’s partners around the world, offers insights into how our work is making a real difference in cancer prevention though cancer screening, training of researchers, and other areas. IARC Research Worldwide pays homage to the thousands of people who dedicate their lives to reducing and eliminating the global cancer burden by conducting painstaking research, participating in worldwide collaborative projects, and implementing innovative approaches to cancer control and prevention.
